I grew up in the midwest fishing freshwater. I had my first spin cast reel as a little kid, and then spent hours in the yard practicing with a baitcaster. Now that I live in South Carolina, I am trying to get into saltwater fishing. Bigger fish right?
My experience with saltwater has been charter trips when we would go on family vacations to North Carolina. I once bought a spinning reel combo on a pier in North Carolina and have caught a share of sharks and whitefish off of the piers using a heavy weight and shrimp.
I have been taking a few party boat trips to try some bottom fishing during this winter. So far we’ve caught a few rock bass, but hopefully we will start landing some worthwhile fish. Maybe next month we will splurge on a private charter to try some other options.
My current resources
I’m just starting to look into buying some saltwater gear. I want to be able to take my boys fishing more often and get out and go. We used to go ice fishing, maybe now we can go do some pier fishing or charter fishing.
TakeMeFishing.org and browsing the bass pro catalog have been my two sources of information so far.
